This tour takes students on an exploration of STEM innovation - from  earthquakes to geothermal energy, marine ecosystems to sustainability, engineering, design and architecture.  

Students come away with a greater understanding of the connections between STEM disciplines and how each contribute to creating thinking and solutions to real-world challenges.

Day 1

Depart Australia ⤑ Arrive in Auckland

Day 1-2

Auckland

Take a field trip offshore to explore NZ’s unique ecology and issues impacting marine environments – global warming, plastics pollution and over-fishing.  Get hands-on with robotics and AI

Day 3-5

Waikato & Rotorua regions

Challenge the senses at volcanic and geothermal landmarks and engage with Maori culture.  Explore cave systems, glow worms and fossils.  Learn about innovative transport technologies and take a guided tour of Middle Earth at the Hobbiton movie set.      

Day 6-8

Wellington

Workshop the planets at Space Place and the natural world at Te Papa.  Learn about the architecture and engineering of earthquake-proof structures. Workshop how physical effects and technology combine.   

Day 9-10

Blenheim 

Learn about technologies driving sustainable wine production and agriculture. Travel to Christchurch with stops on the way.  

Day 11-13

Christchurch

Engage with earthquakes and the science of liquefaction.  Take workshops on antarctic marine ecosystems and adaptation, and efforts to tackle river pollution.  Finish with white-water rafting.

Day 14

Depart Christchurch ⤑ Arrive in Australia
