This tour takes students on an exploration of world class museums and research institutions in Europe and the UK – epicentres for the application of STEM to real-world challenges - from particle physics to fusion, civil engineering to cutting-edge design and digital technologies.  

Students come away with a greater understanding of the connections between STEM disciplines and how each contribute to creative thinking and solutions to real-world challenges.

Day 1-2

Depart Australia ⤑ Arrive in Geneva, Switzerland

Day 2-3

Geneva

Get hands-on with particle physics phenomena and superconductivity at CERN, the world’s largest particle physics laboratory and home to the Hadron Collider. Take a tutorial on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Day 4

Freiburg

Learn how Freiburg has become one of Germany’s greenest cities and an epicentre of renewable energy and innovative urban design. 

Day 5-6

Frankfurt & surrounds

Tour this international financial hub. Take workshops opening the door to mathematical and scientific phenomena - EXPLORA Science Centre and Giessen Mathematikum.  Learn about the mathematics of money at the Money Museum.   

Day 6-8

Paris

Coach to Paris.  Discover engineering marvels - Paris Sewers and the Pompidou’s high-tech architecture.  Workshops at City of Science and Industry Museum and Musee Curie. Enjoy downtime at Disneyland Paris.  

Day 9-12

London & surrounds

Eurostar to London.  Workshop scientific research programs at the Natural History Museum.  Delve into ciphers, code-breaking and fusion.  Focus on engineering – from Brunel to the Thames Barrier. Tutorials at the Winton Gallery/Science Museum.  Explore sustainability, design and architecture. 

Day 13-14

Depart London ⤑ Arrive in Australia
