This tour takes students on an exploration of visual art with creations from some of the most renowned artists from the Renaissance and Baroque through to Impressionism and Modernism.  Dali, architecture, Medicis, Impressionism, the lavender of Provence, Rodin The Thinker. 

Students come away with a greater understanding of the role and practice of art, in all its forms, and the ways in which artists interpret the world around them – culturally, socially and politically.  ‘thought’ landscapes

Day 1-2

Depart Australia ⤑ Arrive in Rome, Italy

Day 2-4

Rome

Get immersed in Italian art history – from the cultural explosion of the Renaissance to Baroque realism and Modernism. Guided tours/workshops of the Borghese, Etruscan and Contemporary Art Museums. Explore the archaeological sites of ancient Rome

Day 5-6

Florence

Get hands-on with the rich cultural history of this Tuscan city, cradle of the Renaissance - Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia, tutorial on Italian art at the Uffiz.  Visit iconic landmarks – the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria and Medici Chapels.   

Day 7-9

Nice & Provence

Follow Matisse’s artistic development – paintings, cut-outs, engravings, sculpture - at Musee Matisse in Nice and the Chapelle du Rosaire at Vence.  Explore the Impressionists’ fascination with the light and colours of the Cote d’Azur and rustic Provence – focus on the streets and landscapes that inspired Cezanne and Van Gogh at Aix and Arles. 

Day 10-12

Paris

Be guided through centuries of artistic achievement – Louvre, D’Orsay, Pompidou – from Impressionism to Picasso, surrealism, Dali, to pop art.  Explore Rodin’s Learn how Rodin transformed the sculpture artform from convention to expression, and marvel at the architecture of Frank Gehry at the Foundation Louis Vuitton.  Visit iconic cultural and historic sites. 

Day 13-14

Depart Paris ⤑ Arrive in Australia
