The tour takes students on an exploration of the rich literature & drama traditions of the UK and France – from workshops to performances and from Shakespearean classics to the absurdism of Camus.  

Students come away with a greater understanding of the settings and events that writers have taken as their context and inspiration.  They also gain insight into drama, stagecraft and the power of theatre to communicate social, political, and cultural messages.

Day 1-2

Depart Australia ⤑ Arrive in Manchester

Day 2-3

Manchester

A creative writing workshop and study of Gaskell’s depiction of gender, class and industrialisation in North and South. Tour Lowry Theatre, participate in intensive drama workshop, & attend evening performance.

Day 4

Stratford-upon-Avon

Visit Shakespeare’s House, tour ‘behind the scenes’ at the Swan Theatre and attend an evening performance by the RSC.

Day 5

Oxford

Explore Oxford’s rich literary history, participate in a drama workshop and visit historic Magdalen College – focus on works of Lewis and Heaney. 

Day 6-11

London

Explore a truly global city – from a Shakespearean workshop to writings of Keats, Bloomsbury set & Shaffer, immersive workshops in film music and drama, & tour of Warner Bros.  Evening performances at The Globe, West End musical and Improv Theatre. 

Day 12-15

Paris

Train to Paris.  Literature Tour of sites linked to de Beauvoir, Sartre and Camus and guided walk to discover the real Moliere. Tour cultural centres, visit Paris Disneyland and a take a performance techniques workshop.  Evening performance at Theatre des Nouveautes. 

Day 16-17

Depart Paris ⤑ Arrive in Australia
