This tour takes students on an exploration of the rich and diverse literary traditions of the UK & Germany - from Shakespearean classics, the Romanticism of Wordsworth, intellectualism of the Bloomsbury set, through to the cityscapes of Berlin inspiring German and émigré writers.
Students come away with a greater understanding of the landscapes, settings and events that writers have taken as their context and inspiration.

Day 1-2
Depart Australia ⤑ Arrive in Manchester
Day 2
Manchester
Tour the historic John Rylands Library collections, and study Gaskell’s depiction of gender, class and industrialisation in North and South.
Day 3
Cumbria ⤑ Lake District
Visit Dove Cottage and explore the Lake District landscapes inspiring Wordsworth. Visit the Parsonage Museum & wild moorlands depicted by the Brontes.
Day 4
Warwick ⤑ Stratford-upon-Avon
A craft of writing workshop focussing on TS Eliot’s poetry, visit to Shakespeare’s House, behind the scenes tour of the Swan Theatre and an evening performance by the RSC.
Day 5
Oxford
Explore Oxford’s rich literary history and visit historic Magdalen College – focus on the works of Lewis and Heaney.
Day 6-9
London
Experience a truly global city - from a Shakespearean workshop to immersion in the writings of Dickens, Keats & Bloomsbury set. Visit the British Museum and Warner Bros. Evening performances at The Globe and a West End musical.
Day 10-12
Berlin
Explore Germany’s literary legacy through writers closely associated with Berlin - Brecht, Nabokov & Seghers. Literature Tour focussed on Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin. Evening theatre performance & tour of Reichstag Dome.
Day 13-14
Depart Berlin ⤑ Arrive in Australia
