This tour takes teachers on a deep dive into the architecture, art, philosophy and mythology of Ancient Greece and its influence on Western civilisation.
Included are some of the most important archaeological sites, architectural remains and museums of antiquities on mainland Greece and Crete.
Through lectures and guided tours with experts, teachers have opportunities to refresh and deepen their subject knowledge and teaching practice, and bring innovative ideas, techniques and resources back to the classroom.

Tour Highlights
Starting in Athens, explore the city’s monumental archaeological sites and take a journey through the architecture, art, philosophy, history and mythology of ancient Greek civilisation. Marvel in the magnificence of the Acropolis, Agora and Pynx, followed by in-depth interpretations of the past at the Acropolis Museum and National Archaeological Museum.
Tour evocative ancient sites at Delphi and Olympia.
Explore the major Mycenaean centres of the Peloponnese - Pylos, Sparta and the famous theatre of Epidaurus. Tour the ruins of Tiryns and Mycenae, home of Agamemnon and synonymous with Homer’s epic poetry. Engage with Mycenaean architecture, art and its socio-political culture.
Journey back in time to the Minoan civilisations of Crete at the Palace of Knossos and view the ancient treasures of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, a showcase for artefacts spanning 5,500 years from Neolithic to Roman.
Combine a stimulating learning journey with time to engage with contemporary Greek culture and the links to its ancient past.

Have a valid passport with six months’ validity from their return date to Australia
Obtain any required visas for travel to the destination country, plus any additional visas required for holders of non-Australian passports
Obtain their own travel insurance

Participants on this tour will be able to register for PL hours (depending on subjects taught) in your NESA teacher accreditation hours in ETAMS.

Register Interest to join the mailing list for updates on this tour. Once the tour reaches its minimum interest requirement of attending teachers, you will receive a copy of the booking form and tour payment schedule. A non-refundable deposit will then be payable to confirm your place.
The final balance of the tour price is due 120 days prior to departure.

You certainly can! Anyone can travel on our PL tours, however, non-teachers should be aware the content will be targeted to the relevant syllabus and based on a certain level of prior knowledge. Should any participant choose not to attend one of the planned activities, there would be no refund for an unused portion of the tour.
Please note - Participants must be over 18 years of age to attend the tour, and attendees who are not teachers in Australia may not be able to acquire PL hours or tax deductions.

Your On-Tour Academic Expert
Dr Jennifer Lawless
Dr Jennifer Lawless is highly regarded in History education in NSW. After her time in the classroom, she spent 13 years as the History Inspector for the NSW Board of Studies. Jennifer gained her PhD from the University of New England on the experiences of the Australians captured as POWs during the Gallipoli campaign. She has lectured in History teaching method at Sydney, Macquarie, and Western Sydney Universities. Jennifer has authored/co-authored over a dozen books on History.
Jennifer has been involved in the development of several overseas study tours designed specifically for teacher PL. She has travelled with groups across Greece, Turkey and Egypt, providing classroom context and facilitating collegial discussions on tour.
